Healthy soil is the starting point for everything — better food, stronger plants, more resilient ecosystems. At Western Toad, we’re here to demystify composting, regenerative growing, and natural inputs so you can feel confident working with nature, not against it.
This is your space to dig in, get inspired, and learn how even small shifts can lead to big transformation. Let’s grow from the ground up — together.
Why Vermicompost works
Vermicompost isn’t just compost — it’s compost that’s been processed by worms and enriched with powerful microbial life. It’s gentle, nutrient-rich, and full of humic substances that improve nutrient availability and soil structure.
Use it when:
You want to boost microbial life
You’re starting seedlings or transplants
Your soil needs a soft, steady dose of nutrients
What is Korean Natural Farming?
Korean Natural Farming (KNF) is a set of regenerative practices that uses fermentation, biology, and mineral balance to create closed-loop growing systems. KNF lets you farm with what's around you — plants, fruits, microbes — rather than relying on synthetic chemicals or heavy machinery.
At Western Toad, many of our inputs are inspired by KNF. It’s nature working with nature — and it’s effective.
How is KNF different from Organic or Biodynamic Farming?
While organic and biodynamic farming are both excellent methods for sustainable agriculture, Korean Natural Farming offers unique benefits that make it particularly effective.
Organic
Focuses on avoiding synthetic chemicals and fertilizers, using organic matter to enhance soil fertility. However, it often requires significant inputs of organic matter and can be labor-intensive.
Biodynamic
Builds on organic principles with a holistic approach, considering the farm as a living organism. It involves specific preparations and follows lunar cycles, but can be complex and time-consuming.
Korean Natural Farming
Utilizes local, cost-effective materials and beneficial microorganisms to enhance soil health and plant resilience with fewer inputs and less labor. KNF's adaptability to various climates and its closed-loop system make it a highly efficient and sustainable approach to agriculture.
Regenerating Your Soil: A Beginner’s Guide
Regeneration starts with recognizing soil as a living ecosystem. That means feeding biology, minimizing disturbance, and creating the conditions for life to thrive. Compost, teas, and fermented inputs are tools that feed that cycle.
Want to start small?
Add finished compost each season
Brew a compost tea
Try a foliar spray of FPJ
Avoid tilling or overwatering
Every little change makes a difference. Your soil — and your plants — will thank you.
